The Sewist Society

Imagine the Possibilities!

We created The Sewist Society to be one solution to textile waste on a local level. Creating a new kind of recycling hub, one that would be able to intake unwanted textiles headed for the landfill, recycle them, and educate on the importance of diverting textile waste and overconsumption.

Fashion Revolution Week

As the world gears up to celebrate Earth Day and Fashion Revolution Week, The Sewist Society is proud to announce two exciting events that blend style, sustainability, and community engagement. From clothing swaps to mending workshops, these initiatives aim to inspire conscious consumerism and promote a more eco-friendly approach to fashion.

Skill Share & Home Sewist Program

We need solutions on every level in order to tackle the textile waste problem. In our skill share program, we will spotlight sewing as a skilled trade. We will have programs for the novice sewist up to the most experienced. Our hope it to create a sewing hub where teachers can share their knowledge and help elevate sewing to the respectable trade it is. Our Home Sewist Program will be an employment opportunity and another avenue for recycling unwanted textiles.

Community Center

We are currently working on creating a first-of-its-kind facility. We will provide awareness and education as well as sewing workshops and classes, a community space for meetings and gatherings, and a fabric resale shop.

As we work to open this center, We also have created an online community on Patreon.

At The Sewist Society,

We aim to find solutions to the systemic problem of textile waste and overconsumption. We honor the life cycle of the fabric, from the seed, to the thread, to the cloth, to the garment, and all the hands that made it. We believe that through awareness and education, we can redefine our relationship to textiles and grow a future that sustains us all.
